Egypt’s Minister of Higher Education Ayman Ashour – who doubles as the chairman of the Egyptian National Commission for UNESCO – underlined Egypt’s keenness on enhancing co-operation with UNESCO.
He highlighted the key role played by UNESCO, especially through its regional office in Cairo, referring to the historical ties between the two side in various domains.
He made the remarks during a meeting with Tamara Rastovac Siamashvili, Chairperson of UNESCO’s Executive Board.
The talks tackled means of enhancing bilateral co-operation and exchanging expertise on developing higher education, scientific research and technical skills.
Ashour invited Siamashvili and her accompanying to attend the launch of the 2023 national strategy for higher education and scientific research.
He stressed Egypt’s keenness on improving the quality of education to reach international standards through establishing more branches of international universities in accordance with Egypt Vision 2030.
Meanwhile, Siamashvili lauded the leap realized by the higher education institutions in Egypt over the past years, highlighting the pivotal regional role played by Egypt in the fields of education, science and culture.
She stressed interest in promoting co-operation with Egypt in projects of mutual concern, especially those relevant to the Sustainable Development Goals.
