Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry stressed Friday the importance of bringing foreign interference into Libya’s internal affairs to a halt, freeing Libya from all foreign troops and mercenaries, as well as offering full support to Libyan 5+5 Joint Military Committee (JMC).

During his participation Friday, on behalf of President Abdel Fatah El Sisi, in a meeting of the heads of state and government of the African Union (AU) High-Level Committee meeting on Libya, the foreign minister extended thanks of President Sisi to the participants of the meeting that was chaired by the Congolese president, along with the committee’s efforts in support of political stability in Libya, according to Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abou Zaid.

In his word, the foreign minister pointed out to the negative impact of not holding the Libyan national elections as scheduled, the spokesman added.

Meantime, Shoukry underscored Egypt’s efforts in support of solving the crisis in Libya and continued cooperation with the United Nations (UN) mission in Libya, with a view to reaching a peaceful solution for the problem in the oil crescent country that run in line with the Constitution, said the spokesman.

He voiced Egypt’s rejection of any foreign meddling in Libya’s internal affairs, added the spokesman.

The Egyptian minister called for rallying efforts to back holding elections in Libya within the set timeframe to help Libyans restore their country’s sovereignty and stability, he said.

Egypt will always remain a strong pillar in support of Libya and Libyan brethren toward achieving their aspirations, added the spokesman.
