CAIRO – The Arab Women Organization (AWO) and the German Agency for International Co-operation (GIZ) signed a co-operation agreement on women economic and political empowerment. The signing ceremony was held at AWO premises in Cairo.
Following the signing ceremony, Director General of the Arab Women Organization Fadia Kiwan said the agreement represents an advanced phase of regional cooperation with GIZ, asserting that this step would maintain strategic cooperation between the two sides with the aim of increasing its effectiveness and sustain the activities carried out by AWO in the Arab region.
Kiwan said this partnership would help in enriching the exchange of expertise with much contribution from the European sides in general and the German side in particular.
She also extended thanks to GIZ over its sustained cooperation with AWO and its confidence in partnership with WoMENA, a special program for empowerment of women in the Middle East region.
Meanwhile, GIZ official for governance sector Kai Andrashko said the WoMENA program will work on enhancing and boosting women empowerment activities and it will be funded by the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development as well as GIZ.
She said WoMENA program will work on effectively contributing in bolstering the development policy of women empowerment in six Arab states including Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine and Tunisia.
