Egyptian Electricity Minister Mohamed Shaker and Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad inaugurated on Tuesday the 6th Arab Forum on the Prospects of Electricity Generation and Seawater Desalination.
The two ministers listened to presentations by participants from Russia, China and Egypt on the most advanced methods of seawater desalination and electricity generation using nuclear energy. The presentations also focused on the most advanced nuclear security techniques.
The Forum aims to evaluate nuclear power programmes in the Arab countries and co-operation among them. It also seeks to promote the role of nuclear energy to meet the increasing demand for electricity and desalinated water.
Participants will be exchanging information and experience on national methodologies for the study of nuclear energy with the aim to qualify and develop human resources.
The event also supports an Arab approach toward developing and using nuclear energy at the level of decision-makers and the public.
The Forum is set to wrap up activities on December 8.
