Work is underway to upgrade the Ain Sokhna Port to be a hub for international trade movement, says Egypt’s Transport Minister Kamel el-Wazir.
Speaking during a meeting with Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli earlier Sunday, Wazir said if everything goes according to plan, Sokhna will turn into a pivotal port and Egypt’s share of transit trade will increase.
This should also help Egyptian exports tap new markets through direct navigation services, the minister told Madbouli.
He posted the premier on plans to develop integrated solutions to promote interoperability among sea terminals, railway stations and multimodal transport.
All this is done as part of efforts to upgrade the maritime transport and ports system in Egypt in a bid to turn the Arab country into a hub for international trade and logistics.
