FAO Assistant Director-General and Regional Representative for the Near East and North Africa AbdulHakim Elwaer lauded Egypt’s remarkable efforts in the issue of climate change, saying this issue becomes the most important topic in the world.
In exclusive statements to Al Akhbariya news agency on Tuesday, Elwaer said Egypt exerts tangible efforts, in co-operation with relevant parties from governments, international institutions, civil society and the private sector, to take climate action and shift from climate pledges to actual implementation, along with mobilising international efforts to promote green transformation in Africa and developing countries.
Climate changes have led to drought in some areas, like that happened in East Africa and Morocco, flash floods in Pakistan and wildfires in Lebanon and Algeria, he added.
