CAIRO – Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhi has praised co-operation between his ministry and United Nations Population Fund (UNPF).
The minister’s statements came during a meeting Monday with United Nations Assistant Secretary-General and United Nations Population Fund Deputy Executive Director, Management, Ib Petersen, who started a visit to Egypt Sunday, in the presence of Frederica Mayer, UNPF representative in Egypt.
The meeting was attended by senior officials from the ministry, a representative of the Foreign Ministry and the UNPF officials in Egypt.
He described cooperation between the two sides as fruitful in the sport projects and women empowerment.
Petersen expressed happiness over visiting Egypt for the first time as a UNPF top official, hailing cooperation between the fund the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
According to a statement issued by the UN media center in Cairo, Patersen, during his five-day visit, will be briefed on the population program in Egypt and discuss how UNFPA can further support the Government of Egypt to achieve its 2030 agenda.
During his visit, Petersen will also have meetings with officials from the League of Arab States to discuss UNFPA at the regional level and the long standing cooperation between the fund and League of Arab States.
