ALEXANDRIA, Egypt – Egyptian Minister of Higher Education and Technical Education Reda Hegazy said President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has stressed the importance of giving great attention to supporting talented youth and all those excelling in the various domains.

During the closing ceremony of the 15th edition of the Egyptian Olympiad in Informatics (EOI), the minister said the EOI has contributed to the discovery of many distinguished young figures in the communication and Information Technology (IT) domains helping them to obtain scholarships in most outstanding world universities, as well as leading positions in prestigious world companies.

The EOI was organised by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), in cooperation with the Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport (AASTMT) during the period between September 11-15, at AASTMT campus in Alexandria.

The minister also highlighted his ministry’s keenness on further promoting digital transformation in the education sphere, in line with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s directives on this score.

All EOI stages were fully supervised by MCIT team. Around 5,236 students applied to receive a training grant provided by MCIT. A number of 300 preparatory and secondary stage students were selected and trained through “Beaver Egypt Challenge”.

About 550 students applied for the qualifier which lasted for five hours, on September 2-3, to select the top 100 to participate in EOI 2022.

The EOI was first held in 2003. A cooperation protocol was inked between the Ministry of Education, MCIT, and AASTMT to qualify and upskill young Egyptians in software and IT areas.
