ALEXANDRIA, Egypt – Ambassador Christian Berger, the European Union ambassador to Egypt, asserted that the coming winter season will witness a high turnout by European tourists on making trips to the southern Mediterranean countries topped by Egypt to enjoy the moderate atmosphere.

The EU ambassador’s remarks came in response to reporters’ questions at the end of his tour-day visit to Alexandria governorate.

Responding to a question by MENA, Berger said that he expects an increase in the number of European tourists visiting Egypt in the coming winter in view of the energy crisis in Europe, noting that European tourists are making annual trips to the southern Mediterranean states especially Egypt which he described as a main tourist destination during winter.

He also pointed out to the importance of involving youths in various fields over the past years, noting that youths are able to work out solutions for the challenges facing the world at the current phase especially concerning climate change and its impact on all world countries.

Replying a question on the negative impact of war in Ukraine on climate efforts, the EU diplomat voiced hope that such war could not impede the efforts exerted to mitigate the climate change impact, as well as other critical issues such as the world food security and the energy crisis.

Concerning Europe’s measures to face the energy shortage crisis, the ambassador said citizens should rationalize the use of electricity, reduce air-conditioning temperatures as well as shower heaters and other devices.
