Egypt’s Minister of Transport, Kamel el-Wazir, made an inspection tour on Sunday of parts of the first line of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) project, especially near the New Administrative Capital (NAC).
The tour was part of preparations for the handover by German conglomerate corporation, Siemens, of the first 40 kilometres of the first line of the project.
The first line of the project is expected to be launched on November 7, in the light of directives by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.
Minister el-Wazir, accompanied by a host of officials from his ministry and the heads of some of the agencies affiliated to the ministry, checked the track link from Ain Sukhna Station to Ain Sukhna Port.
This link extends over 6 kilometres. It is part of the first line of the project. The link aims to serve the transport of goods to and from the port.
The minister then headed to Ain Sukhna Station where work in the implementation of the station is still in progress.
The station is expected to serve the Ain Sukhna region, including tourist activities in the Red Sea and industrial activities in the same area.
The same station will serve the Ain Sukhna Port, along with the new city of Suez, the final station in the first line of the LRT.
Minister el-Wazir also followed up on the ongoing construction of the station’s platform and other works in the area, which include – among other things – a bridge.
The minister also appraised progress on the construction of the NAC Station, an interchange station and a meeting point for a wide range of transportation methods to and from the NAC.
The station will mainly serve the NAC and the Sports City, along with eastern Cairo’s urban communities.
Almost the largest in the Middle East, the NAC Station will cover an area of 1,100,000 square meters. It will consist of parking lots and commercial areas.
