Egyptian Minister of Trade and Industry Ahmed Samir emphasized the importance of achieving further co-operation and coordination in all areas of joint Arab action with a view to facing the current global economic and social challenges.
The minister made the remarks as part of a speech he delivered during the opening session of the 110th meeting of the Arab League’s Economic and Social Council at the ministerial level, which kicked off on Thursday at the headquarters of the Arab League General Secretariat in Cairo.
Samir noted that the 109th session, chaired by Egypt, witnessed great momentum in the negotiating process and contributed to reaching more Arab convergence and understanding on issues of common concern.
During Egypt’s chairmanship of the council that commenced last February, two extraordinary sessions were held at the ministerial level in addition to the ordinary one, the minister said.
He invited all participants in the 110th meeting to take part in the UN Climate Change Conference, COP27, that will be held in the Red Sea resort city of Sharm El-Sheikh in November and present initiatives related to the environment and climate.
At the conclusion of his speech, Samir handed over the chairmanship of the council to Morocco which presides over the current session.
