The Alexandria National Museum (ANM) will celebrate its 19th anniversary on Wednesday with a series artistic events.
Moamen Othman, head of the Museums Sector at the Supreme Council of Antiquities, said the events will include theatrical performances for children and youths.
The ANM was formerly a palace that belonged to timber merchant Asaad Basile, who lived there until 1954, when it was sold to the US embassy.
In 1996, the Supreme Council of Antiquities purchased the premises and turned it into a museum, which was officially re-opened after renovation on 31 August 2003.
The three-story Italian-style museum now houses 1,600 pharaonic, Graeco-Roman, and Coptic Christian and Islamic exhibits.
