CAIRO – Egypt’s unemployment rate stabilised at 7.2% in the second quarter of 2022, compared to the same period of last year, the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS) said on Monday.
The workforce, which includes employed and unemployed citizens, has reached 29.985 million persons in the second quarter of 2022 compared to 29.895 million in the corresponding period of 2021, CAPMAS added.
The number of unemployed people in the second quarter of 2022 registered 2.151 million, including 1,250 million males and 901,000 females. This is compared to 2.145 million unemployed people in the corresponding period of 2021, the agency said.
Unemployment among males aged between 15 to 29 years reached 61.3%, according to the agency.
In urban areas, unemployment reached 10.6% while it hit 4.5% in the countryside, it further said.
