Giza-The Coptic Orthodox Church in Egypt said 41 people were killed in the massive fire that ripped through Abo Sefein Church in Imbaba district in Giza Governorate on Sunday.
The fire took place during the Divine Liturgy, according to the spokesman for the church.
Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria offered his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, stressing that he is personally following up the circumstances of the fire with bodies concerned.
“We are sadly following up the tragic incident that took place earlier in the day at Abo Sefein Church in Imbaba district in Giza and we are on a constant contact with leaderships in the governorate and the Health Ministry over the developments of the incident. We are offering our condolences to families of the victims and we are praying for the wounded,” the pontiff tweeted.
