Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has called for transforming the Nasser Medical Institute into an integrated medical city including through raising the efficiency of the facility’s infrastructure and increasing its hospitalisation capacity.

The presidential directives to this effect also called for introducing new medical specialisations and departments and increasing the number of operations rooms and nephrology units, in addition to raising the facility’s capacity by 1000 more beds, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi said.

Upgrading the Nasser Institute for Research and Development was discussed during a meeting that President Sisi called yesterday to follow up on the executive status of a number of projects carried out by the Armed Forces Engineering Authority nationwide, especially including road and bridge construction projects and those of the New Administrative Capital (NAC).

Attending the meeting were Presidential Advisor for Urban Planning, Maj Gen Amir Sayed Ahmed, Head of the Armed Forces Engineering Authority Maj Gen Staff Hesham el-Swifi, and some authority officials.

The Nasser Institute development plan takes into consideration the facility’s status as one of the basic pillars of Egypt’s health care system, Spokesman Radi said.

Other matters considered during the meeting included the works under way to upgrade roads and traffic axes in Greater Cairo, Spokesman Radi said.

These include the 17km long Hassaballah al-Kafrawi Axis, which connects the Ring Road, south of el-Musheer Tantawi Axis, with the Maadi district, and the Hadarat Axis linking it to the Yasser Rizk Axis, which will connect the downtown area and Salah Salem Road with the Moqattam Plateau, in addition to the 14 km-long Gamal Abdel Nasser Axis, a major traffic axis for New Cairo.

In the course of the meeting, President Sisi reviewed the construction and engineering situation of a number of facilities in the NAC, with focus on Dar El-Quran Hall at Misr Mosque, and the project to network the surrounding roads and the axes, especially the Middle and the Regional Ring Roads, Spokesman Radi said.

Also considered during the meeting were the ongoing efforts for developing facilities, infrastructure, roads and traffic axes in the Sharm el-Sheik, as part of preparations for the world climate summit (COP27) that Egypt will host there in November.
