Egypt’s Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Mohamed Abdel Aati asserted that more than 60,000 encroachments were removed from the banks of the Nile and canals with a total area of 8.7 million square meters since the start of the removal campaigns until now.
This came during a meeting held by Abdel Aati with a number of the ministry’s leaderships to follow up on the executive situation of the campaigns on the waterways.
Abdel Aati said that nipping these violations in the bud is a clear message for anyone who wants to make other violations on waterways.
The campaigns aim at achieving the good management, operation and maintenance of the water system to guarantee providing the water needs necessary for all beneficiaries, he said.
The encroachments removed were in Dakahlia, Beheira, Menoufiya, Minya, Kafr el Sheikh and Sohag.
