CAIRO – Spokesman for the Egyptian Foreign Ministry Ahmed Hafez denied – in a statement Wednesday – remarks attributed to the head of the Egyptian diplomatic mission in Libya during his meeting with the Libyan foreign undersecretary.

Commenting on a press release by the Libyan foreign undersecretary on his meeting with the head of the Egyptian diplomatic mission in Tripoli, Hafez asserted the Egyptian government is providing all care and support to Libyans in their second country Egypt in light of brotherly and historical relations binding the two nations and peoples.

The Joint Egyptian-Libyan Consular Committee was scheduled to convene on May 24 in Cairo to probe all consular issues with special focus on conditions of the communities of the two countries to remove any obstacles facing them, he said. However, the committee meeting was delayed at a request by the Libyan side.

That was further clarified in the Egyptian diplomat’s meeting with the Libyan official, he added.

The spokesman urged media outlets to be accurate while publishing news about the conditions of the communities in the two nations.

Egypt will go ahead with its efforts to support and help Libyans to restore security and stability and hold presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible, he mentioned.

It is not weird that some sides are circulating some inaccurate statements in a bid to draw attention away from the June 22 deadline that marks the end of the road map of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF).
