FM: Saudi CP visit to Egypt “great opportunity” for close coordination on joint challenges

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukri said the visit of Saudi Crown Prince Mohamed bin Salman to Egypt is a great opportunity for leaders of both countries to coordinate stances on several challenges facing Egypt, Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries.

In exclusive statements to the Al Arabiya news channel on Tuesday, Shoukri added that such close coordination could help boost joint efforts to confront challenges and promote bilateral ties.

The top Egyptian diplomat explained that achieving stability in the region would serve the two countries’ interests.

Shoukri went on to say that talks between the Egyptian president and the Saudi crown prince would tackle the Palestinian cause, the developments in Libya and Syria, as well as the fight against terrorism.

He noted that the two leaders would also discuss fostering existing coordination on the issues related to bringing about stability and security in Africa, in addition to the current global economic crisis.

Regarding the Yemeni crisis, Shoukri stated that Egypt and Saudi Arabia pay great attention to this issue, citing the decision to operate direct flights between Sanaa and Cairo for humanitarian reasons.

Shoukri pointed out that Egypt and Saudi Arabia continue supporting the efforts exerted by UN Special Envoy to Yemen Hans Grundberg to implement the resolutions of international legitimacy to resolve this crisis.\
