Culture Minister Enas Abdel Dayem flew to Naples on Thursday to attend the Mediterranean Ministers of Culture Conference in Naples.
The minister’s attendance is in response to an invitation from the Italian Ministry of Culture.
The conference, which is being held in the famous Palazzo Reale di Napoli and the San Carlo Theatre, focuses on cultural diplomacy in a critical area for global balance.
The event, which ends on Friday, is the first meeting of culture ministers to boost the partnership between the European Union and the South in cultural fields.
Abdel Dayem said the conference is an important step to more cultural development projects between Euro-Mediterranean countries and the South.
Sixty delegations representing Euro-Mediterranean governments, European institutions, international organisations and prominent non-governmental groups are taking part in the event.
The presence of Egyptian culture and creativity at this international forum reflects the nation’s leadership in civilisation and confirms its regional and global influence in the entire region.
Abdel Dayem said the governments should draw up unified policies and measures to safeguard and strengthen culture as a common good of the Euro-Mediterranean region.
The protection of cultural heritage from damage caused by international crises and illicit trafficking will be discussed.
The role of the culture in fighting climate change, and achieving sustainable development and the United Nations 2030 Agenda Goals were high on the conference agenda.
