Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi witnessed on Monday the inauguration of the integrated animal, dairy production complex and mechanised slaughterhouses in Sadat City in Menoufia Governorate.
The opening was attended by Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli along with a host of ministers and senior state officials.
Upon arrival, President Sisi saluted the attendees and the ceremony began with recitation of verses of Holy Qur’an.
The projects are part of the milk production complex in Sadat City and are meant to develop livestock wealth through genetic improvement of Egyptian breeds.
The complex can house up to 5,000 milking livestock with a production capacity of 1.5 tonnes of live meat per cycle.
The complex also includes a scientific center with a veterinary hospital and six sub-farms in addition to two incinerators for safe disposal of biological waste.
The projects underline the state’s keenness on proceeding with ambitious national ventures to meet people’s needs and create more jobs.
During the inauguration of the integrated animal, dairy production complex and mechanised slaughterhouses in Sadat City, Director General of the Armed Forces National Service Projects Organisation (NSPO) Walid Abu El-Magd said that Egypt has planned to maximise its resources through agricultural, livestock and fisheries projects, with the view to taking essential steps forward to bridge or reduce the food gap.
Any astute observer of the world events realises that food has turned from a mere commercial commodity, which can be bought and sold, into a weapon that whoever owns it can direct it towards those who need it to achieve certain political and economic goals, Abu El-Magd said.
He added all world countries have realised this incontrovertible fact and are looking for new ways and paths to achieve their food security.
Egypt is not isolated from the world, he said, adding Egypt’s reading of all these scenes is more comprehensive, and its all-round vision for the future is more objective, he said.
Egypt was not satisfied with the food it produces, but it also planned to maximise its resources through agricultural, animal and fisheries projects, Abu El-Magd explained.
These project will help bridging or reducing the food gap, which the country has been suffering from for decades as a result of soil erosion and land degradation and the increase in population growth rates, he elaborated.
In line with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s directives, in co-operation with the State bodies in developing sustainable food systems that achieve food security, particularly in light of the current global repercussions and their impact on global food security, NSPO has established modern agricultural projects to help achieve food security, he stressed.President Sisi then inaugurated a number of livestock and dairy production projects via video conference.
One such project is a milk production complex in Nubariya.
Sisi also inaugurated two animal produce complexes in Nubariya and the New Valley.
An automated slaughterhouse in the Red Sea governorate was also opened via video conference.
During the inauguration ceremony, of the integrated animal, dairy production complex and mechanised slaughterhouses in Sadat City, in Menoufia Governorate, a documentary entitled “New Dream” was screened shedding light on realising Egypt’s dream in achieving a developmental leap in the various domains, under a political leadership incorporating scientific learning and planning as a system meant to ameliorate services.
The film also highlighted the State’s keenness on accelerating strides to develop the animal wealth sector and its complementary industries, with a view to realising self-sufficiency in this regard.
Egypt’s endeavor to bridge the gap between meat and dairy production and citizens’ needs through the National Million Cattle Project figured high on the documentary.
It also underlined the State’s keenness on inaugurating more ventures covering the various fields in a short time.
President of the Academy of Scientific Research & Technology (ASRT) Mahmoud Sakr said the scientific research community highly appreciates the unprecedented support of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to science and scientists.
He referred to Sisi’s doubling of the funds allocated for scientific research three times within the past seven years.
Sakr made the remarks on Monday during the inauguration of the integrated animal, dairy production complex and mechanised slaughterhouses in Sadat City.
He lauded the president’s efforts for holding an annual meeting with Egyptian scientists and honouring them saying “this sends a message about the great role of science and scientists in building humans and knowledge economy”.
He also commended the president’s efforts to develop research infrastructure and the scientific data base in Egypt, citing the establishment of new universities and research and scientific centres.
He noted that a package of scientific research incentive laws was issued.
Meanwhile, Board Chairman of the National Company For Animal Production Mohamed Salah Issa asserted that the company took several steps within the framework of its national role in the national project for developing the animal wealth and to make contribution with all the bodies of the state to bridge the gap of animal protein and provide health and safe meat and dairy productions to citizens.
In his word during the inauguration of the integrated animal, dairy production complex and mechanised slaughterhouses in Sadat City, Issa said that the inauguration of one of the stages of the national project for developing animal wealth is one of the developmental projects to achieve the goals of the sustainable development as part of the state’s comprehensive development plan of 2030.
The steps taken by the company came at the directives of President Sisi during the inauguration of the first stage of the project in Fayyoum in December 2019, he added.
Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation El Sayyed el-Quseir said the animal wealth sector plays a vital role in food security.
The minister said that Egypt has witnessed over the past eight years unprecedented support to the agriculture sector, with a view to realizing balanced and sustainable development.
He also highlighted the importance of animal wealth to realising sustainable agriculture development, including achieving food security, improving nutrition, utilising natural resources, providing job opportunities and better living conditions for small breeders.
Meantime, the minister underlined the main objectives of the animal wealth development strategy aiming to improve local cattle breeds, along with increasing milk and meat production to strike self-sufficiency.
