ISMAILIA, Egypt – Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority Osama Rabie said the Suez Canal has gone a long way towards implementing a comprehensive strategy meant to achieve integrated development of this vital facility by 2023.
The strategy includes several axes, most notably the continuity of developing and maintaining the waterway, modernizing marine units, maximizing the benefit from the authority’s companies, and implementing the digital transformation plan, Rabie added.

The official made the remarks during his meeting with Japanese Ambassador to Egypt Oka Hiroshi to discuss means of fostering Cairo-Tokyo cooperation, the Suez Canal Authority said in a statement Friday.
This is the first official visit by the Japanese ambassador to the authority since he assumed his post, the statement said, adding that Hiroshi was accompanied by a high-level delegation from the Japanese embassy and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)’s Egypt Office.
During the meeting, Rabie praised extended cooperation and partnership between Egypt and Japan, asserting his keenness to open up new prospects for cooperation between the Suez Canal and Japan.

Meanwhile, the Japanese ambassador said Tokyo has been in cooperation with the Suez Canal for years in several fields, pointing out to fruitful cooperation binding JICA and the Suez Canal Authority.
