Egypt’s Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala el-Saeed on Monday met with Indonesian Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati on the sidelines of the 47th annual meetings of the Islamic Development Bank Group (IsDB) in Sharm el-Sheikh.

El-Saeed and Indrawati discussed aspects of co-operation between the two countries in light of Egypt’s preparations for the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and Indonesia’s presidency of the G20 summit.

They also looked into means of boosting co-operation between Egypt and Indonesia to confront the current challenges and geopolitical changes, their economic and social repercussions.

Egypt’s hosting of the COP27 climate conference comes within the framework of working to accelerate the implementation of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement, el-Saeed said.

She stressed the importance of building on the results of COP26, held in Glasgow last year, referring to the launch of the National Climate Change Strategy last month, which aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, adapt to the negative repercussions of climate change, provide proper financing to developing countries, build capacity and transfer technology.

For her part, the Indonesian minister of finance said that her country’s presidency of the Group of Twenty offers a great opportunity to promote the green economy.

Indrawati said that Indonesia has taken steps to switch to a green economy through preparing people to transition to green jobs.

She added that her country is developing an investment map in co-operation with all parties concerned to launch framework agreements to reduce carbon emissions.
