CAIRO – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi said on Monday Egypt is highly keen on developing co-operation with Poland under the umbrella of the Visegrad Group (V4) as it gathers friendly countries which share with it similar ideas and priorities, especially in the fields of combating illegal migration and building capacities.
The Visegrad includes four Central European countries: Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary.
President Sisi was speaking during his meeting with visiting Polish President Andrzej Duda at Ittihadia Palace, Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady said.
Sisi valued the Polish president’s visit as it marks the first presidential visit between the two countries despite 100 years of diplomatic relations.
Duda, for his part, highly appreciated his country’s deep and distinguished relations with Egypt, asserting his keenness to develop ties given that Egypt represents a major pillar for stability in the Middle East and the Mediterranean regions.
The meeting tackled ways of enhancing bilateral relations in various fields, as the two sides agreed on exchanging visits at different levels, especially the economic one.
The two presidents touched on boosting the volume of trade exchange, transferring Polish technology, and drawing on the Polish expertise to shore up industrial development in Egypt.
The meeting also reviewed Egypt’s efforts to confront illegal migration and terrorism and preparations for the UN COP27, slated for November in the Egyptian Red Sea resort city of Sharm El Sheikh.
The two leaders discussed the Palestinian cause and the Russian-Ukrainian crisis and its consequences on the global economy as each president reviewed his country’s point of view towards the matter.
