CAIRO – Egypt’s Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli chaired on Thursday a meeting to discuss a number of files related to the health sector.

The meeting was attended by Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Acting Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar and Chief Executive Officer of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI) Mohamed Abdel Wahab.

During the meeting, Abdel Ghaffar reviewed the executive position of the most important national projects in the health and higher education sectors.

Abdel Ghaffar also shed light on the proposals to increase investments and strengthen the partnership between the public and private sectors in the health sector, as part of efforts to enhance the quality of health services in hospitals and encourage the private sector to increase its investments in this vital sphere.

The minister, meanwhile, reviewed the executive statues of the development plan for the Nasser Institute Hospital, as part of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s directives to convert it into a scientific research center and an integrated medical city.

Abdel Ghaffar added that the plan aims to raise the hospital’s capacity, increase the efficiency of its infrastructure and ensure its medical services are sustainable.

The plan also involves adding new buildings for internal and pediatric diseases, outpatient clinics, a genetic disease research center and laboratory, he further said.

He added that new specialised medical units will be established that include a stroke unit, pediatric heart surgeries and congenital defects, delayed childbearing unit, obesity surgery unit, bone bank, a specialised unit for the treatment of maxillofacial deformities, high-precision radiotherapy service, endoscopic ultrasound service, and pediatric dialysis unit.

The institute, which was opened in 1987, is one of the most important pillars of the health system in Egypt, Abdel Ghaffar affirmed during the meeting.
