CAIRO – Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi followed up the conditions of Egyptian expats in Ukraine, amid the ongoing Ukrainian-Russian crisis.

During a meeting with Minister of State for Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs Nabila Makram on Saturday, Sisi was briefed on the number and whereabouts of Egyptians who managed to flee dangerous areas in Ukraine, according to Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady.

Makram also posted the president on the situation of humanitarian cases in shelters, as well as the conditions of citizens heading to the border crossings with neighboring countries.

Sisi also followed up on the government’s efforts to repatriate these citizens and facilitate the enrollment of returning students in Egyptian universities.

Sisi instructed the bodies concerned to work for ensuring the safety of Egyptian expats stranded in Ukraine and neighboring countries and provide them with all needed support until they return back home.

President has issued directives to widen the scope of interactive educational programs aimed at linking Egyptian youth abroad to their homeland.

During a meeting with Nabila Makram on Saturday, the president was briefed on the ministry’s preparations for hosting the “Egypt Can with Industry” conference and updates of the presidential “Speak Arabic” initiative.

The minister reviewed Egyptian expats’ contributions to the country’s economic and social development, Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady said.

The president also ordered the minister to step up efforts aimed at encouraging the Egyptian expats to invest in the real estate sector in Egypt.

Makram also spoke about the “Life-Saving Boats” initiative, which aims at fighting illegal migration.

The president was posted on the situation of Egyptian students in Ukraine and issued directives to take all necessary measures to ensure their safety.
