Aqaba summit discusses trade, food security, energy and regional issues

Egypt’s ‏President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met on Friday in the Jordanian port city of Aqaba King Abdullah II of Jordan, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, the crown prince of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Moustafa al-Kadhimi, the prime minister of Iraq.

‏The meeting focused on means of enhancing joint co-operation between the four countries in all fields, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi said.

‏He added that the four leaders especially discussed means of strengthening co-operation in the fields of trade and energy.

‏They also discussed economic co-operation, Ambassador Radi said.

‏He noted that President Sisi, King Abdullah, Crown Prince bin Zayed and Prime Minister Khadhimi also exchanged views on the overall political and economic situation at the regional and international levels.

‏The discussions dwelt on the repercussions of current global conditions on food security and energy sector, Ambassador Radi said.

‏He added that the four leaders also discussed ways to enhance trade with a view to preserving regional stability and security.

‏President Sisi, King Abdullah and Prime Minister Kadhimi met several times in the past few years within the framework of trilateral co-operation mechanism between their three countries.

‏The mechanism seeks to give a boost to a new regional alliance that acts as a step on the road to greater Arab unity and co-operation in all economic, political and security domains.

‏Meetings between the leaders of the three countries were held in Cairo, Amman and Baghdad.

‏President Sisi highlighted the importance of stronger co-operation between Arab countries over the past years.
