CAIRO – The cabinet media centre said the government is doubling efforts to ensure strategic stockpile of basic commodities.

In a report, the centre said food security is a top priority and the government is implementing giant projects to upgrade agricultural policies, secure food commodities and control market prices in view of international crises.

The centre said the wheat storage is safe by 65 per cent until the end of the year as the harvest season starts in April.

The centre added that the rice and pasta are sufficient by 100 per cent for 6.5 months and five months respectively, while edible oil is sufficient by 30 per cent for five months.

The centre noted that the state diversified the sources of wheat to confront internationally rising wheat prices.

It added that Egypt imports wheat from Russia, Ukraine, Romania, France, US, Australia, Argentine, Kazakhstan, Serbia, Bulgaria, Hungary, Paraguay, Germany, Poland, and Latvia.
