Egypt’s Minister of Planning and Economic Development Ahmed Rostom and Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held talks on Tuesday with senior World Bank (WB) officials on the sidelines of the 2026 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the WB in Bangkok.
The talks focused on strengthening development partnerships and expanding economic co-operation.
They reviewed recent developments in the Egyptian economy and progress in implementing the country’s economic and social development plan for the 2026/2027 fiscal year.
Rostom said the Egyptian economy had demonstrated resilience in the face of global and regional geopolitical tensions, recording growth of 5.1 per cent in the previous fiscal year.
He also highlighted the growing role of the private sector, which accounted for 57.7 per cent of total investment.
The meeting also reviewed the main features of Egypt’s National Economic Transformation Programme, being prepared in line with directives from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and aims to build on previous government reform efforts.
Separately, Rostom and Abdelatty met Kuwaiti Finance Minister Yaqoub Al-Sayed Yousef Al-Rifai to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral economic co-operation.
Both sides reaffirmed the deep-rooted historical ties between Egypt and Kuwait and stressed the importance of translating investment opportunities into tangible development projects that deliver mutual benefits.
