Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty met the Head of the Thai-Egyptian Parliamentary Friendship Group, Yonadi Waba, and members of the group in Bangkok to strengthen parliamentary and people-to-people ties between the two countries.
Abdelatty welcomed the establishment of the friendship group, expressing hope that it would help deepen ties and promote greater communication between the two peoples.
He stressed the importance of building on the positive momentum in bilateral relations this year, including the eighth round of political consultations held in Cairo and a series of reciprocal parliamentary visits, most recently by Thailand’s deputy speaker of the House of Representatives in September 2026.
The minister called for more exchanges of visits and meetings, closer direct communication between specialised parliamentary committees, and regular virtual dialogues with members of Egypt’s House of Representatives and Senate. He highlighted education, culture and academic exchanges as key areas for co-operation.
Abdelatty also stressed the need to expand trade and investment ties, describing Egypt as a promising platform for Thai companies, given its domestic market, strategic location and network of free trade agreements providing access to African, Middle Eastern and European markets.
He urged the friendship group to promote links between business communities and encourage Thai companies to explore manufacturing and investment opportunities in Egypt, particularly in the Suez Canal Economic Zone.
The meeting also discussed technical co-operation, joint vocational training and expanding reciprocal scholarships in priority fields.
