Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty met Thai Industry Minister Varawut Silpa-archa on Monday to strengthen trade and investment ties.

Abdelatty stressed the importance of increasing trade and investment between the two countries, praising Thailand’s progress in innovation, digital transformation and sustainability.

He expressed Egypt’s interest in benefiting from Thai expertise in localising industry, boosting domestic production and increasing industrial exports.

He also called for exchanges of economic and trade delegations to explore investment opportunities, build partnerships between business communities and expand access to both markets.

Potential joint manufacturing projects in priority sectors, including rubber, petrochemicals and tyres, were also discussed.

Abdelatty highlighted the competitive advantages offered by the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone), particularly its integration of industrial areas, ports and logistics services, as well as its strategic location and Egypt’s free trade agreements with several countries.

He praised investments by Thai company Hi-Tech, the first Thai industrial project in the SCZone, and stressed the importance of building on this experience to attract further investment across various industries.

For his part, Silpa-archa praised the friendly relations between Egypt and Thailand and expressed his country’s interest in expanding trade, investment and industrial cooperation.

He also highlighted Egypt’s potential as a gateway to African, Arab and European markets and voiced Thailand’s keenness to explore new investment and production opportunities in the SCZone.
