Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty arrived in Bangkok on Sunday for the first visit by an Egyptian foreign minister to Thailand in 30 years.
Abdelatty is due to meet Thailand’s deputy prime minister and foreign minister for the third session of a joint ministerial committee, ministry spokesman Nader Zaki said.
His schedule also includes meetings with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, members of the Senate Foreign Affairs committee, and the ministers of agriculture and industry. He will meet Thai business representatives and take part in an Egyptian-Thai business forum focused on boosting trade, investment and economic ties, as well as discussing regional developments, Zaki said.
The visit also includes participation in the World Bank and International Monetary Fund’s 2026 Annual Meetings. Abdelatty will attend as Egypt’s governor at the World Bank and discuss global economic developments and cooperation with international financial institutions, the spokesman said.
He is also due to meet senior officials from the World Bank Group, including the International Finance Corporation and the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency, as well as representatives of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development, and development agencies and ministers from participating countries.
The talks will focus on development financing, mobilising investment and supporting priority projects, Zaki said.
