Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries during an official visit by El-Sisi to Indonesia on 10 and 11 October 2026.

According to a joint statement issued on Sunday, the visit, held at the invitation of President Prabowo, followed his visits to Egypt in December 2024, April 2025 and October 2025. El-Sisi was accorded an official reception at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta, followed by bilateral talks and an official luncheon. The two presidents exchanged views on bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual interest and witnessed the exchange of several documents aimed at strengthening their strategic partnership.

The two leaders agreed to enhance political co-operation and co-ordination through regular high-level visits and the activation of existing bilateral mechanisms, including Joint Committee meetings. They also welcomed the Action Plan for the Strategic Partnership between Egypt and Indonesia, agreed upon during the visit, as a framework for advancing co-operation.

The presidents welcomed the steady development of defence and security relations and agreed to deepen co-operation in these fields to strengthen the national capabilities of both countries. They also pledged to expand bilateral trade and economic ties by improving market access, facilitating investment and business engagement, enhancing the effectiveness of the Joint Trade Committee, and advancing joint manufacturing projects in priority sectors.

Both leaders welcomed progress in strategic co-operation between Indonesia’s Danantara and Egypt’s Future of Egypt for Sustainable Development Authority. They highlighted opportunities for cooperation in the production and distribution of crude palm oil and its derivatives, as well as phosphate fertilisers and related raw materials, to encourage mutually beneficial investment and boost bilateral trade. They also called for expanding joint investment into other strategic sectors, including infrastructure, energy, logistics and agribusiness.

Building on the longstanding historical and cultural ties between the two peoples, the presidents agreed to expand co-operation in education, culture, language and youth affairs. Planned initiatives include academic and institutional partnerships, student and school exchange programmes, and a new framework for capacity-building and technical co-operation.

President Prabowo welcomed Al-Azhar University’s decision in November 2025 to include Indonesian language courses in the programmes offered by its Faculty of Languages and Translation. He also encouraged further co-operation in teaching Arabic in Indonesia.

The two presidents stressed the importance of ensuring the safety and well-being of their respective citizens and encouraged closer co-operation between the relevant authorities on consular matters and assistance, in accordance with national laws and regulations.

In light of evolving geopolitical and global challenges, the leaders emphasised the need for greater strategic convergence and closer co-ordination between Egypt and Indonesia in regional and multilateral forums.

On Palestine, the two presidents expressed deep concern over continued violence and Israeli military operations in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem. They condemned Israel’s illegal settlement policies and activities and called for their immediate and complete cessation in accordance with international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.

The leaders reaffirmed their unwavering support for an independent, sovereign, viable and geographically contiguous Palestinian state along the 4 June 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the two-state solution and in accordance with international law and relevant UN resolutions.

They also reiterated their unequivocal rejection of any attempts to forcibly displace or expel Palestinians from their homeland under any pretext. Both presidents reaffirmed their commitment to a just, comprehensive and lasting peace, including through the full implementation of US President Donald Trump’s comprehensive plan to end the conflict in Gaza. The Indonesian side praised Egypt’s pivotal role in facilitating humanitarian assistance to Gaza and pledged to continue providing humanitarian support to the Palestinian people.

Regarding the Gulf region, the presidents expressed deep concern over escalating tensions and widening hostilities, warning of their serious implications for regional security and stability, civilian safety, freedom of navigation, energy security and the global economy. They called for immediate de-escalation and the utmost restraint by all parties, stressing the need to respect state sovereignty and territorial integrity, uphold international law and the UN Charter, and resolve disputes through dialogue and diplomacy.

The two leaders also acknowledged the growing challenges posed by climate change and water scarcity and their implications for water and food security, sustainable development and regional stability. The Indonesian side took note of the vital importance of Nile water security to Egypt, while both sides stressed the need to fully observe international law governing transboundary watercourses, including the principle of causing no harm.

At the conclusion of the visit, President El-Sisi expressed his appreciation to President Prabowo for the warm welcome and generous hospitality extended to him and his accompanying delegation, wishing the Indonesian people continued progress and prosperity.
