He expressed Egypt’s interest in making greater use of the organisation’s technical expertise and project implementation capabilities, while stressing the importance of effectively mobilising funding and development partners in priority sectors, including health, transport, infrastructure and digital transformation, in support of Egypt’s national development objectives.
Abdelatty also reaffirmed Egypt’s support for reforming the UN system, stressing the need to enhance its efficiency, effectiveness and ability to respond to the priorities of member states.
He said the reform process should be based on an objective and transparent assessment that takes into account operational efficiency, economic viability and tangible impact on the ground.
During his meeting with Ero, Abdelatty discussed ways to strengthen co-ordination in support of efforts to contain regional crises and advance political and diplomatic solutions.
He stressed the importance of sustained international engagement focused on de-escalation, dialogue and confidence-building to create conditions for lasting political settlements.
Abdelatty outlined Egypt’s ongoing efforts to promote regional stability, with particular emphasis on ensuring full, sustained and unhindered humanitarian access to the Gaza Strip.
He reaffirmed Egypt’s support for the Palestinian people and stressed the need to mobilise international efforts to deliver humanitarian assistance to those in need while supporting early recovery efforts.
The minister also reiterated Egypt’s steadfast support for Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity and national institutions, stressing the urgent need to end the conflict and advance a comprehensive political settlement that safeguards the country’s sovereignty and responds to the Sudanese people’s aspirations for security, stability and development.
The discussions also covered developments in Yemen and the Iran crisis, as well as broader regional security concerns.
Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s position that de-escalation and political solutions should remain the principal means of addressing regional tensions.
He also underscored the importance of safeguarding the security and freedom of maritime navigation in accordance with international law.
For their part, Moreira da Silva and Ero expressed appreciation for Egypt’s engagement in addressing regional and international challenges, and commended its diplomatic efforts to promote dialogue, de-escalation and political solutions, as well as its role in addressing humanitarian crises and supporting regional stability.
