Egypt and Angola have signed a five-year memorandum of understanding to expand cultural and artistic co-operation between the two countries.
Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Acting Minister of Culture Abdelaziz Konsowa and Angolan Culture Minister Filipe Silvino de Pina Zau signed the agreement on Saturday following talks in Cairo on ways to strengthen cultural ties.
The agreement, which is automatically renewable, covers co-operation in literature, translation, publishing, cinema, arts, visual arts, handicrafts, cultural heritage and intellectual property.
It also provides for joint exhibitions, seminars, conferences and cultural events, along with exchanges between art institutes, writers’ and artists’ unions, archives and other cultural institutions.
Egypt and Angola will exchange expertise in cultural heritage preservation and organise training programmes in cultural management and library sciences.
Konsowa said the agreement would broaden co-operation with Angola and create new opportunities for artists, writers and cultural institutions in both countries.
He also invited Angolan publishers to take part in the 58th Cairo International Book Fair in January 2027 to promote literary and publishing exchanges.
The agreement coincides with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Egypt and Angola.
During his visit, Zau also attended the unveiling of a bust of Angola’s first president, Agostinho Neto, at Al-Horreya Garden in Cairo’s Zamalek district.
