Egypt’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Acting Minister of Culture, Abdelaziz Konsowa, held talks on Friday with French Ambassador to Egypt Éric Chevallier on the latest developments in the new campus project of the French University in Egypt (UFE) and ways to further strengthen Egyptian-French co-operation in higher education and scientific research.
The discussions took place during a meeting attended by Mounir Fakhry Abdel Nour, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the French University in Egypt, Mohamed Roshdy, President of the university, and a number of Egyptian and French academic officials.
Minister Konsowa highlighted the strength of Egyptian-French relations and their continued development, particularly in the fields of higher education and scientific research.
He stressed the importance of expanding partnerships between universities and research institutions in both countries and leveraging their expertise and resources to enhance academic and research programmes, keep pace with scientific and technological advances, and meet labour market needs.
The minister described the French University in Egypt as a successful model of academic co-operation between the two countries. He noted that the new campus project has the full support of the Egyptian state and aims to provide a modern learning environment, support emerging scientific disciplines and interdisciplinary programmes, and foster innovation and entrepreneurship.
For his part, Ambassador Chevallier reaffirmed France’s support for academic and research co-operation with Egypt, as well as its commitment to continued coordination to complete the new campus project in line with the highest technical standards.
He said the project would enhance the university’s capabilities in education, scientific research, innovation and technology.
The two sides also reviewed the latest developments in the project and the progress of ongoing work at the new campus, as well as mechanisms for advancing implementation during the coming period.
They agreed to maintain close co-ordination between the relevant Egyptian and French authorities, follow up on implementation progress and ensure that the objectives of the new campus are achieved, while maximising the benefits of the bilateral partnership in higher education, scientific research and innovation.
