Egyptian Labour Minister Hassan Raddad held talks on Thursday with his Omani counterpart, Mahad bin Said Baawain, during which he reviewed Egypt’s experience in promoting vocational training and skills programmes, and linking them to the needs of the labour market.
Raddad highlighted Egypt’s mobile training units, which deliver vocational training services to villages and remote and underserved areas, enabling young people to access training and qualification opportunities where they live, according to a ministry press release posted on the Cabinet Facebook page.
Meanwhile, the two minister inspected one of the mobile units, where Raddad outlined its facilities, operation and training specialisations. He stressed the prime importance of expanding access to vocational training, particularly for young people seeking to enter the labour market.
Egypt is hard at work to develop workers’ skills in line with the actual needs of domestic and foreign labour markets, helping Egyptian workers compete internationally and supporting the state’s efforts to provide safe and regulated employment opportunities abroad, Raddad said.
He also reviewed the ministry’s employment-oriented training programmes and the “Mahara 2030” project, which aims to modernise the vocational training system, improve training centres and strengthen private-sector partnerships.
In addition, the meeting addressed social protection programmes for workers, mainly irregular workers, emergency assistance, new labour legislation, and occupational safety and health.
For his part, Oman’s Baawain commended Egypt’s experience in vocational training, skills development and social protection, expressing interest in benefiting from Egyptian expertise and strengthening co-operation in training, employment and knowledge exchange.
