Singaporean Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan received on Wednesday Egyptian Ambassador to Singapore Ahmed Mostafa at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Singapore.
The two sides discussed issues of mutual interest, including the growing political and economic ties between Egypt and Singapore, technical co-operation, and developments in the Middle East.
Balakrishnan expressed his government’s appreciation for Egypt’s efforts to facilitate the delivery of Singaporean aid to Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip.
He said he looked forward to continued co-ordination between the two countries on humanitarian assistance.
The Singaporean minister also expressed appreciation for the role of Al-Azhar in promoting and consolidating the principles of moderate Islam.
He praised the support provided to Singaporean students studying at Al-Azhar.
Balakrishnan also welcomed the upcoming resumption of EgyptAir’s direct flights between Cairo and Singapore, saying the move would help boost tourism and business travel and contribute to increasing trade between the two countries.
