Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has inspected the National Company for Plastic Industries plant in the Baltim Industrial Zone, which specialises in manufacturing agricultural film used in a range of agricultural applications.
The inspection tour is part of the premier visit to Kafr el-Sheikh Governorate on Saturday.
During the tour, Prime Minister Madbouly stressed the government’s commitment to expanding industries that manufacture production inputs, highlighting their wider economic impact on productivity, costs and the competitiveness of downstream sectors.
Madbouly said the government is currently identifying products and production inputs imported in significant quantities and assessing opportunities for their local manufacture.
He affirmed that factories capable of expanding production would receive State support, provided they deliver high-quality products at competitive prices.
He further emphasised that the objective is not simply to replace imports, but to develop locally manufactured products capable of competing with imported alternatives on quality and cost, as sustainable industrial development depends on competitiveness rather than protectionism alone.
Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem, for his part, said deepening local manufacturing of production inputs is a central pillar of the Ministry’s strategy, particularly in specialised plastics industries serving major productive sectors such as agriculture.
He also stressed the importance of complying with technical and environmental standards, reducing waste and promoting the recycling of industrial by-products.
During the inspection, the prime minister reviewed the factory’s production lines and received a briefing on its operations, capacity and local content.
Established in 2013, the facility covers approximately 1,850 square metres, produces around 20 tonnes of agricultural film daily and provides approximately 25 direct jobs, in addition to hundreds of indirect employment opportunities.
