The Chairman of the Nuclear Power Plants Authority (NPPA), Sherif Helmy, received South Korean Ambassador to Egypt Kim Wan-joong and representatives of Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) on Wednesday, to discuss ways of strengthening bilateral co-operation and review the latest developments in the El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant project.

The meeting covered several issues related to KHNP’s participation in the project, as well as mechanisms to enhance coordination between Egyptian and South Korean work teams to support implementation and ensure greater integration among the parties involved.

Helmy stressed the importance of ongoing Egyptian-South Korean co-operation in the nuclear energy sector, highlighting the NPPA’s commitment to working with international partners and benefiting from specialised technical and technological expertise to support the implementation of the El Dabaa project.

The meeting reflects the strong relations between Egypt and South Korea and their growing co-operation across various sectors, particularly energy, underscoring both countries’ commitment to advancing joint co-operation.

The two sides also stressed the importance of maintaining close communication and coordination to support work related to KHNP’s participation in the project and help achieve its objectives.

The NPPA reaffirmed its continued efforts to strengthen co-operation with international partners and support the implementation of El Dabaa, one of Egypt’s most important strategic national projects in the energy sector. The project is expected to contribute to energy security, meet future energy needs and strengthen Egypt’s national capabilities in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy.
