Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides on Tuesday praised Egypt’s role in ensuring regional security and promoting stability, particularly through its efforts to support peace in the Gaza Strip.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Christodoulides said Cairo was playing a “vital role” in supporting Gaza’s population and advancing peace efforts, according to Egypt’s state news agency MENA.
He reiterated Cyprus’s rejection of the forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza and expressed support for the rights of the Palestinian people.
“Regional peace remains the guiding principle for Cyprus,” Christodoulides said, adding that Egypt was playing a major role in assisting Gaza’s population and promoting stability in the region.
He also said he looked forward to hosting the next trilateral summit in Cyprus with Sisi and Mitsotakis, underscoring the importance of continued coordination among the three countries.
On energy cooperation, Christodoulides said Cyprus would export natural gas through Egyptian infrastructure, allowing the two countries to make use of Egypt’s gas transportation and export capabilities.
