Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi called for integrating modern irrigation systems development into state projects to improve irrigation water management including canal lining and raising the efficiency of secondary canals.
The president’s remarks came during his meeting with Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli, Central Bank Governor Tarek Amer as well as a host of ministers and top government officials, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi said.
During the meeting, the president was briefed on the efforts to establish smart irrigation system, which is one of the latest irrigation techniques in the world, by producing state-of-the-art sensors to measure moisture level in the soil with high accuracy.
This will achieve multiple benefits, the most important of which is increasing crop productivity of arable lands, providing enough quantities of fertilisers and irrigation water, thus doubling the income of rural families.
The president directed that these devices be provided at reasonable prices and quantities to be accessible to farmers, in coordination between the Arab Organisation for Industrialisation and the ministries of irrigation, agriculture and military production.
The president also called for providing all elements that would ensure success of efforts to modernise and develop irrigation systems nationwide, as part of the state’s various efforts aimed at raising the efficiency of irrigation water management and reducing water waste.
The president also underscored the importance of training farmers in the operation and maintenance of modern irrigation systems. In this respect, the president called for expanding training programmes provided by agricultural societies as well as promoting public awareness campaigns targeting farmers and rural families to introduce the benefits and returns of modern and smart irrigation systems.
