On the sidelines of the UNCCD COP17 conference in Ulaanbaatar, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Swailem held talks with Tsagankhuugin Enebish, Mongolia’s Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry.
Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation and exchanging expertise in water management and agriculture, particularly in light of growing challenges facing both sectors. The talks highlighted the importance of sound water governance in supporting food security and sustainable development.
Swailem presented Egypt’s vision for the second generation of its water system, known as Water 2.0, which integrates engineering and technological solutions to improve efficiency and expand the use of modern technologies in managing water resources.
Both sides stressed the need to maximise returns from each unit of water, especially in agriculture, through wider adoption of modern irrigation systems, better distribution management, and the use of innovation to address water scarcity and climate change impacts.
Swailem reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to enhancing cooperation with Mongolia and other partners, exchanging knowledge in water and agriculture, and supporting efforts to strengthen water security, food security, and climate resilience.
