Co-operation between Egypt and Italy in technical and technological education has grown significantly in recent years under the umbrella of the Italian Don Bosco Institute in Cairo, one of the oldest and most prominent platforms for bilateral co-operation in vocational education and training, Egyptian Ambassador to Italy Bassam Rady said.

The partnership brings together educational institutions and Italian companies to transfer Italian expertise to Egypt and better align vocational training with labour market needs.

The two countries are currently co-operating through their education ministries to link a number of Egyptian applied technology schools with five Italian technological academies. The partnership covers several sectors, including mechatronics, sustainable transport, chemistry, textiles, healthcare, agriculture and food industries, Rady added.

Agriculture holds particular importance within the partnership, with plans to establish Egyptian-Italian institutes specialising in applied agricultural technology. Students will receive practical training through production projects, combining classroom-based education with hands-on experience at farms, production centres and other agricultural facilities.

Rady said the fruitful technical co-operation with Italy had been encouraged by Egypt’s major agricultural infrastructure and development projects in recent years, particularly the New Delta and Mostakbal Misr (Future of Egypt) projects. These projects have encouraged Italian institutions to expand co-operation in the vital agricultural sector.

Egyptian-Italian co-operation in technical education dates back to 1896, when the Don Bosco Institute was established in Alexandria. A Cairo branch followed in 1926, helping to train generations of Egyptian young people for vocational and technical careers, with support from the international network of the Italian Don Bosco Foundation.
