Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty stressed the importance of restoring normal maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz and ensuring the security, safety and freedom of navigation through the strategic waterway, given its direct implications for the global economy, energy security, international trade and supply chains.

Abdelatty made the remarks during a phone call on Saturday with Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi.

During the phone talks, the two ministers discussed bilateral relations and ways to further develop co-operation across various fields, as well as regional developments and issues of common interest.

The call focused extensively on the latest developments in the region, particularly those related to freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.

Abdelatty underscored the importance of building on ongoing diplomatic efforts to help de-escalate tensions and create conditions conducive to a return to the memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran. He stressed the importance of resuming negotiations aimed at reaching a comprehensive and sustainable settlement that would strengthen security and stability in the region.

The two ministers affirmed the need to maintain close consultations and coordination in the coming period and step up efforts to contain tensions and prevent further escalation.

They also stressed the importance of prioritising political and diplomatic solutions in a manner that safeguards regional security and stability.
