Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian expatriates Badr Abdel-Aati praised the deep and historic ties between Egypt and Oman, highlighting their growing momentum under the strong relationship between President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Sultan Haitham bin Tarik.

Minister Abdel Aati made these remarks during a phone call on Tuesday with his Omani counterpart Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi in which the two ministers discussed bilateral relations and regional developments.

Both ministers reaffirmed their commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation across various fields in a way that serves the interests of both countries and their peoples.

The talks also focused on regional developments, particularly an anticipated joint Iranian-Omani announcement on reopening the Strait of Hormuz and Oman’s efforts in this regard.

Both sides stressed the importance of ensuring the strait’s security, safety and freedom of navigation to help ease tensions and create conditions for a return to negotiations under the memorandum of understanding, with the aim of reaching a comprehensive and lasting agreement addressing all concerns and strengthening regional security and stability.

They stressed that keeping the Strait of Hormuz open to international shipping is crucial, noting that the ongoing situation affects not only regional countries but also the global economy, energy security, supply chains and international trade.

The two ministers agreed to maintain close consultations on regional developments and support diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions and prioritise political solutions to safeguard regional security and stability.
