Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has approved the establishment of two working groups focused on disarming Gaza and providing humanitarian assistance to the territory’s residents, his office said Monday.

The announcement followed a meeting between Netanyahu, representatives of the Board of Peace for Gaza, and US special envoy Jared Kushner. The talks were described as “deep and constructive,” according to a statement cited by The Times of Israel.

One group will focus on disarmament in Gaza. Both Israel and the Board of Peace are determined to complete the process before any reconstruction of the territory begins, the statement said, according to MENA.

The second group will address sanitation, access to clean water, and public health problems affecting Gaza’s population and, in turn, Israeli residents, it added.

The Board of Peace welcomed the meeting, saying Israel’s approval of the two groups could help advance a US roadmap for disarming Hamas and securing the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.
