Egypt’s Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem inspected on Sunday Sinai Manganese Company’s alloy production plant during his first visit to the Abu Zenima Industrial Zone in South Sinai.

He also reviewed the production operations and plans to raise plant capacity to 50,000 tonnes annually by the end of 2028.

The minister was received upon arrival by South Sinai Governor Major General Ismail Kamal and Holding Company for Chemical Industries Chairman Saad Abu El-Maati.

The plant, covering 23,500 square metres, has investments of LE2.5 billion and capital of LE300 million.

It produces silicon manganese and ferromanganese alloys, with current capacity of 18,000 tonnes annually, a 60% local component and exports accounting for 49% of output to Türkiye, Libya and Italy, the ministry said in a statement.

During a meeting with company officials, Minister Hashem reviewed the company’s history and expansion plans, including increasing raw-material added value, sustainable mining, technology use and exports.

Future projects include kaolin calcination, agricultural gypsum, medical and flat glass, solar panels, and iron-manganese separation.

During the inspection tour, Minister Hashem inaugurated a dust and dirt separation system for input gases, designed to reduce emissions and ensure environmental compliance.

He further inspected the iron-manganese separation and high-manganese slag plants, scheduled to start operations by August 2027, as well as storage yards, the sintering machine and Abu Zenima Port’s loading and service berth.

The minister described alloys as key inputs for iron, steel and heavy industries and a means of maximising mineral resources. He noted that growing engineering and construction activity is increasing demand, providing an opportunity to boost local production, reduce imports and lower costs.

He stressed expanding supplier industries, linking them to local and global supply chains, increasing value addition and competitiveness, deepening manufacturing and expanding exports.

Governor Kamal praised support for the company’s development, highlighting its potential to maximise mineral resources, strengthen national industry and create jobs, and affirmed continued coordination to support expansion and investment.
