The National Navigation Company’s two new vessels, Wadi Al‑Nil and Wadi Al‑Qamar, are heading to Egypt after being handed over by China’s New Hantong Shipyard, according to a statement released by Egypt’s Ministry of Transport on Saturday.

Transport Minister Kamel El-Wazir witnessed the handover ceremony on Friday as part of Egypt’s efforts to modernise its national commercial fleet and strengthen its competitiveness in regional and international markets.

Wadi Al‑Nil has already set sail for Egypt, while Wadi Al‑Qamar is preparing to depart.

The two dry bulk carriers are Kamsarmax vessels with identical specifications. Each has a deadweight capacity of 82,000 tonnes, a length of 229 metres, a beam of 32.26 metres and a draft of 14.5 metres.

The vessels feature state-of-the-art technologies designed to improve operational efficiency and reduce fuel consumption. Each is powered by a 7,490-kilowatt MAN B&W engine equipped with a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system to reduce emissions and meet international environmental standards.

They are also fitted with ballast water management systems to protect marine ecosystems, as well as advanced navigation, communication and engine monitoring systems.

Each vessel has a fuel capacity of 2,054 cubic metres, allowing up to 90 days of continuous sailing, and a seawater desalination plant capable of producing 20 tonnes of fresh water daily for long voyages.
