Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations, particularly in trade and the economy, during a phone call on Friday, the Egyptian presidency said.
The two leaders agreed to work on increasing trade between Egypt and Ukraine and to explore co-operation opportunities in promising sectors, presidential spokesman Mohamed El-Shennawy said in a statement.
The call also addressed developments in the Middle East. Sisi outlined Egypt’s ongoing efforts to reduce regional escalation and stressed the importance of resolving current tensions through peaceful means to preserve regional security and stability.
He called for coordinated regional and international efforts to halt the escalation, warning of its negative impact on security, stability and international trade, the statement said.
Zelenskyy praised Egypt’s efforts and agreed on the need to reduce the current tensions.
The Ukrainian president also briefed Sisi on the latest developments in the Russia-Ukraine war and welcomed Egypt’s efforts to help end the conflict.
Sisi reiterated Egypt’s support for a political settlement and expressed Cairo’s readiness to assist efforts to resolve the crisis as soon as possible.
