CAIRO – Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli directed the government to monitor markets on an ongoing basis in order to prevent price manipulation, or exploiting the Russia-Ukraine crisis to achieve personal purposes.
The move came during the Cabinet’s weekly meeting that was held Thursday at its headquarters at the government district in the New Administrative Capital.
It is necessary to deal decisively with any unacceptable practices from some greedy traders, the prime minister said, noting that the State has been working over the past period to provide various types of basic commodities and secure strategic reserves of them.
The government will not allow any such practices, he warned, giving orders for relevant coordination with various chambers of commerce.
Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli greeted President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, the ministers, and the whole Egyptian people on the anniversary of Isra and Mi’raj (Prophet Muhammad’s journey from Mecca to Jerusalem and his ascension to the seventh heaven).
He also expressed his greetings to the Arab and Muslim worlds on the same occasion.
The Russia-Ukraine crisis has cast a shadow over the entire world and has had significant negative consequences, Madbouli said, noting in this regard that Egypt is not isolated from the world and therefore there are negative economic impacts the State is working to mitigate.
The measures taken by the State amid the current global crisis include ensuring the availability of basic commodities in markets, he said.
In the same regard, the prime minister commended the great efforts made by the ministries of foreign affairs, immigration, civil aviation, and social solidarity, in addition to the Cabinet’s General Secretariat and all other parties that have coordinated the return of 175 Egyptians from Ukraine in accordance with President Sisi’s directives to evacuate Egyptian students who fled Ukraine to neighboring countries.
The prime minister pointed out to the launch of the national project to develop the Egyptian family, expressing thanks to all the ministries and bodies that have taken part in preparations leading up to this important project, which entails a major strategy that works on continuing the State’s efforts for comprehensive sustainable development nationwide in all sectors.
The project comes within the framework of President Sisi’s directives as regards developing the Egyptian State and moving towards the “new republic” based on solid foundations, he noted.
Meanwhile, the premier highlighted the opening of a number of national projects in the fields of housing and roads on Wednesday in Sheikh Zayed and 6th of October cities.
On that score, Madbouli expressed thanks to the defense minister, the Armed Forces Engineering Authority, as well as to the ministers of housing, transport, and youth and sports for the efforts exerted to carry out such major projects.
